Blame the zoomies.
Frappies is named after the single most joyful thing a dog does. Here is what a FRAP is, why dogs have them, and why we named a treat company after one.
Four letters, one very fast dog
When FRAPs usually strike
- Straight after a bath, as if to shake off the indignity
- In the evening, when the house finally settles down
- After a long nap or a long day in a crate
- When the family comes home
- And at our kennel, right after treat time
Completely. It’s happiness with nowhere else to go.
FRAPs are a normal way for dogs to burn off pent-up energy or excitement, and puppies and young dogs have them most. The only thing to watch is the floor. Clear a space, keep them off slippery tiles and away from stairs, and let them run it out.
If your dog’s bursts seem constant, obsessive, or come with tail-chasing that won’t stop, have a word with your vet. That’s a different thing.
Because treat time is FRAP time.
For more than twenty years our family has kept dogs in Hyderabad, across more than thirty breeds. Those years gave us The Canine Capital, and a lot of opinions about what dogs should be eating.
We started drying treats for our own kennel because we wanted to know exactly what was in them. One ingredient, from a supplier we have used for over a decade, made by people we know. Every evening the treat tin came out, and every evening somebody took off round the yard.
When it came to naming the treats, there was only ever one word on the shortlist that sounded like a happy dog. Frappies: the treat that comes right before the zoomies.
